Make Up from Monday
Monday I asked you to read an article "Better Search Skills" and complete a 3.8 paragraph/ prompt. Here is some feedback that will help you complete this correctly this time. Only use third person point of view; this isn't a diary entry or a cooking t.v. show. Since you are referencing the article in your paragraph, you need to use in-text citation; use the just the author's last name after quotes or paraphrased information due to the lack of page numbers. Click on the link below for the article. Write your 3.8 in the comment box below and submit. If you don't finish with this today, try to get it to me over spring break or come in early on our first day back.
"Building Good Search Skills" article
Love you. Mean it.

The article is talking about how students don't know how to make good research that will result in reliable, credible information. (Bergson- Michelson) The author says that students should question themselves why they clicked on the link they did, and to avoid clicking on links that they don't have a specific reason to click on. (Bergson- Michelson) Students are also advised to look unfamiliar words up, to get a better understanding of the article. (Bergson- Michelson) The author also states that students should research a broad topic to start off with. (Bergson- Michelson) The students can then research a smaller subject of the broad topic. (Bergson- Michelson) Students should also realize that not all online sources are bad, and not all print sources are good. (Bergson- Michelson) The students should make sure the source matches their topic and is credible. (Bergson-Michelson) Students should always try their hardest to conduct research that is not only good, but also credible.
ReplyDeleteIn this article, the author states three crucial points: students need to be taught how to identify keywords, how to utilize keywords in a search, and how to discern reliable sources (Bergson-Michelson). Students need to be able to identify keywords, because these words will enable them to narrow their search (Bergson-Michelson). If the students can pinpoint the information they need, the research process will become much easier for them (Bergson-Michelson). Students must learn how to implement keywords, in order to be able to specialize their search(Bergson-Michelson). If a student has identified keywords, but does not know how to implement them in a search, the keywords will be useless (Bergson-Michelson). Most important of all, students must be able to sift through the sources their search turns up, and be able to identify reliable sources, in order to add credibility to their research (Bergson-Michelson). Without credible research, their assignment will not be satisfactory, and will not have appropriate evidence to support their claim (Bergson-Michelson). If a student is to conduct an internet search, they must know how to search properly, and this mean that educators must teach them to find, and implement keywords, as well as distinguish reliable sources from the other, not so credible sources (Bergson-Michelson).
